Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] casting acrylic origins

Hi Dariusz,
I'd like to know all those details also.
I spent quite a bit of time trying to track down some acrylic resin
to have a go at casting it. But no luck at the time.
I guess if you could track down the raw material you could request
information from the supplier.
When I was casting polyester resins I had a lot of information from the
supplier on catalyst percentages, in relation to casting size
& temperatures at wich the casting was being done.
I read somewhere that the autoclave pressure was 70psi.
If you find any information on this I'd be interested to hear.
Regards Alan

Very interesting, Alan. But this document is lack of details, how to
cast it. What temperatures, time and pressure inside the autoclav.

This is also explained in Stachiw book, site 707, but also without
details I mentioned above. I have a copy without a cd-rom that
contains additional documents, maybe the info is on those documents ?

Here's another link to the origins of large acrylic castings.
http://www.brucebeasley.com/Apolymon/Apoly.htm
This is a more detailed story than my last post on Bruce Beasley.
It is truly impressive when you look at the scale of what he was doing
& the complex nature of it.
There's even a photo of the autoclave with North West Native American
art on it.
This next link is a paper by Stachiw to the navy outlining the benefits
& problems encountered with casting domes.
