Has to do with the size of the haystack and the number of needles.
 
Must not be built to ABS standards...  shocking!

I dont understand why it is so difficult to locate this subs.
A underwater microfon system will detect any dieselmotor
- a automatic check up with a satelit and / or radarsystem will show if there is a ship or not.
If a ship is not vissible were the diesel sound comes from..
..send the coastguard to the spot.
