Jens,Unfortunately I have no other info than what I provided except for some history. I think we'll have much more info to share after the demo at the convention, including photos. I'm sure that someone with more electronics experience than me will be able to provide more details about how it works. Lea's work is the result of underwater communications discussions from this list that resulted in splitting into three separate projects. David Bartsch's sonic (3-5khz) unit that started with a common piezo element and evolved into using a wall speaker, Al Secor's 32khz project which involves using common scuba components from manufacturers such as OTS, and Lea Nichols 46khz project.
The difference between Al's work and Lea's work is that the 32khz transducers are difficult to find except from OTS (not sure if Al has found an alternate supplier yet) and cost $155, whereas the 46khz is commonly available and less expensive. The upside to Al's project is that it is compatible with SCUBA communication products such as those offered by OTS, whereas Lea's project is not compatible with that equipment.
