I have no idea. I had never heard of him before somebody posted that 
article to the Airship-List of all places. Possible reasons:

The Spanish government, until quite recently, de-emphasized (to put it 
mildly) the accomplishments of Catalan, Basque and other minorities.

The man was self-financed, so there were never any big entrenched 
interests promoting him. [Holland is well remembered mainly because of 
Electric Boat and its incestuous relationship with the US Navy, while 
Lake, whose early machines were more successful than Holland's, and 
indeed influenced Holland's later designs, is less known even though he 
did a great job of blowing his own horn with his two books.]

But to get right down to it, I don't really know.

Seems to me he deserves to be much better known. Wish I had the time to 
head over to Spain and research the man.
