[PSUBS-MAILIST] oil filled/ another method

There is another way to modify a Minn Kota without taking it apart. This
method avoids damage to the housing and filings in the motor.

(1) Remove the "composite shaft"
(2) With the shaft on a bench, just above the threads where it screws into
the motor, install a pair of barb fittings on each side of the shaft.
(3) Approximately 3" further up the shaft, drill a .250" hole.
(4) Strip a 1" section of insulation off each wire. Stager the two exposed
sections (red 4" from motor, black 5" from motor)
(5) Solder these sections hard.
(6) Re-insulated these sections using a Devcon Mark 5 "plastic welder" gun
and Devcon plastic welder # 14320. Cover both the metal wire and the
insulation. Make sure the wires will fit back in the shaft after they
harden.
(7) Re-install the shaft on the motor. Use pipe dope on the threads.
(8) Lay the motor/ shaft down on the bench. Plug the barb fittings so air
cannot escape. Using the 3M plastic welder, inject plastic weld into the
.250 hole, creating a "plug" around the wires and also sealing the shaft. It
should cover the entire splice area. Check barb fittings are still clear.
(9) After the plug sets up, stand the motor shaft up and fill a few more
inches of shaft with 2-part liquid urethane.
(10) Attach hose to one of the barb fittings. Select a clear hose that stays
flexible in cold water. This will form a "loop" after filling.
(11) Fill motor with light mineral type oil that won't hurt plastic or
rubber.
(12) Attach the end of loop to the other barb fitting.
(14) submerge in water and test.

Subject: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Oil Compensate Motor

Here are the instructions that were posted by Alec Smyth regarding oil
compensation of a trolling motor.

The advanced features of the web site search engine are your friend
here. I searched for "oil compensate" in the "whole document" and found
this thread on the third page of results. When I changed the search to
look at the "Title" only, it was the first and only result.
