RE: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Window Cleaner

I was in an aquarium recently that has those amazing tanks with floor-to-ceiling walls of acrylic and walk-through tunnels. Where I could see the top of an acrylic wall, it looked to be about 5 inches thick so is obviously a very major investment. A staff member was cleaning the tank, so I took the opportunity to find out what he was using. His spray bottle was labeled "vinegar solution" and he confirmed that's what was in it. Sorry, not sure what the concentration was.

Jim,

Stachiw Handbook of Acrylics, Appendix 19A, Effect of Cleaners and Disinfectants on Stress Crazing Initiation, Page 958, Isopropyl Alcohol caused severe crazing. You'd be better off using Diesel Fuel which had no crazing after 270 minutes.
