Hi David. I remember your periscope presentation from a while ago. Sounds
like a fun project, and a good topic for the fishermen.
I have a source for all sorts of random metal pieces near me. Stainless is
about $1.40 per pound regardless of what shape it is. There's lots of tubing
there. I recently picked up a short section of sleeve that's 2 inch OD and 1
inch ID ( 1/2 inch wall thickness ) plus a length of 1 inch bar stock. This will
be machined into the drop weight mechanism. I think the total cost for this
material was about $8.00
I'm going to miss having that place near when I move to Florida !
I know this little periscope idea is VERY limited in what it would do, but
I was just thinking how an absolutely MINIMAL system could be set up to see
behind the sub. That and how to make it leak proof.
Your design sounds pretty interesting.
Have you started making sketches of your ambient sub yet ?
You may change to a one ATM. sub after visiting with us at the convention.
Depending on who brings their sub, you'll be amazed at how cool these little
