Hi Les. The basic weight of any submarine is roughly equal to it's displacement so by calculating the volume of your hull, whatever shape or size, that will be pretty close to your final weight.
Take a look at any propane tank, say a common size like 250 gallons, figure it's displacement in gallons or cubic feet, and the total weight will be easy to guess at without a lot of complicated math. Just a good rule-of-thumb when first trying to determine what size you're aiming for.
