Yes I spoke to people at California plastics re blown domes.
They had a number of stock molds that they vacuum formed into but these
were light weight & wouldn't take the pressures involved with forming
a thick dome. A guy who wasn't a technician said they formed a large 
submarine
dome & that the buyer had someone in inspecting the process. But I am
guessing this must be an ambient dome. I didn't mention cast domes & neither 
did they.
One thought I had was forming a dome by stacking & gluing progressively 
smaller rings of 70mm
or 50mm thick acrylic on top of each other & machining them back to the 
desired thickness &
curvature.
Acrylic joins can be almost invisible & as strong as the plastic itself. 
With this stacking process
the mating surfaces would already be perfectly flat. The material cost would 
be somewhere
round $1000-.
