Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] High-Pressure Cable Gland

Alan

** Am wondering if it would work filling with epoxy?

I thought about using it, but assumed it would be to hard or brittle for
the job (but that may not necessarily be the case at modest pressures
encountered in a psubmarine).

** I potted wires comming out the back of my linear actuator,
** inside a 1 & 1/2 inch tube with either vynil ester or
** polyester resin then filled the linear actuator with WD40.
** I was amazed that the WD40 just leaked out.
** Re potting with epoxy fixed this.

Have you exposed this job to any serious pressures yet?

The only thing I have available for this is an ITW Devcon product called
"Flexane 80 Liquid", and is something I primarily bought to use to
encapsulate my own, homemade sonar transducers. The stuff is two-component
and the final hardness of the "rubber" can be adjusted using an additive.
Check it out here:

There also seems to be an associated product called "Cable Cast FR", but
this I have only read about, ref

http://www.devcon.com/products/products.cfm?family=Cable%20Cast%20FR

Should you or anyone else have real hands-on experience with any one of
these two products, then I would be extremely thankful to hear about it.

Best regards,
Jens Laland
