Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] revelation

Should be interesting testing. When I did my testing of the various hydrophones built in 2008, in a fresh water pond from within a kayak, I had no issues with surface noise just dipping the hydrophone a foot or two underwater. Granted there were no snapping shrimp or croakers (isn't that what we called ugly girls in high school!?!?!), but the kayak was definitely unstable and "slapping" the water under the gunnel's (not sure if kayaks have gunnels really). It did however pick up sounds underwater quite easily, such as a high pitch "whirring" noise which I attributed to a pump somewhere in the pond supplying water to one of the houses on the shore. As I've stated before, the results I got in fresh water were amazing, the results I got in salt water up in Maine were severely disappointing.

Alan,

Rain and wind noise over-power transducers in 6000 fsw that have great DSP units backing them up. So your point of suspending it deeper doesn’t apply. Plus croakers are bottom fish.

To get 70 fsw off of Ft. Pierce you have to go 10 miles offshore. 40 miles south, you get this much water within a mile of shore. If we get a barge, I expect operating depths to be 35 fsw.
