Alan,Most web cams are universally USB these days unless it is a high-end cam that comes with it's own PCI based controller card. Ipods and such do not have the capacity for drivers, or the power necessary, to run the web cam. Most USB devices, including web cams, are parasite devices which take their power directly from the host computer. However, a small netbook won't cost you much more than an ipod these days and you could have multiple USB cams feeding into it with the benefit of being able to view from multiple angles and record the diving session.

I had thought of the idea of using a car side mirror mechanism to rotate lights or a camera but theangles would be limited.
