Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] CO2 Scubber Design Guidelines

Lithium Hydroxide has been discussed a bit. I think when we had the Micropore Rep. come talk to us in 2008 he discussed the curtains as well. However, the general consensus (including that of Phil Nuytten) is that Lithium Hydroxide products can be nasty and generally are not recommended for the small subs we typically deal with. A vessel of the size Carsten is fabricating would certainly have much more room to deal with CO2 curtains. Also, I've never seen a price for the curtains and don't know what the cost of them are.

In terms of passive service for CO2, its fairly simple to design a canister that you can adapt to use a mouthpiece of some kind with. If you lose power then you just breathe through the canister the same as if you were using a rebreather.

If anyone is interested- Extend Air offers Co2 absorbing curtains that would work without the need for a fan or electricity. Each box of curtains would keep one person alive for about 30 hours.
