I see you call this detail a 'shock mount' which may very well be what it
is, although I thought it may have been the actual clamp nut. But the book
says that no metal hardware (being part of the actual hydrophone) shall be
exposed to seawater. So maybe what we see exposed are simply part of the
hydrophone mounting fixture.

It was interesting to see that you had taken the shock mount off so we
could see properly what it was (thanks). Is there any trace of corrosion
that could lead water to the inside?

Have you decided what you want to do first: megger test the isolation (the
tank with saltwater should be excellent for that purpose),  or doing the
measuring to determine resonance frequencies, impedance, etc?
