Jim,

A few have put valves inside of any hull penetration but this is not necessary for a well-designed thru hull that is solid in nature (i.e. electrical penetrators or Vance’s ball manipulator)…actually overkill.  A valve is called for when you have a fluid port penetration.

This question is for the more experienced psubbers out there.

 

I know SOP is to put a valve inside of any hull penetration. If using a professionally built thru-hull (SubConn) is this still important in your opinion.
