Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] ExtendAir scrubber cartridge

Jon & Dean,
Wouldn't it be simple to make your own cartriges ?
Looking at your CO2 scrubber design Jon, you could make a couple of the
canisters that hold the absorbant & have an outer canister that they fit in to.
The spare canister (cartrige) could be kept, sealed at the top & inside a
similarly sized screw top plastic container. Just take the new cartrige out of it
& the old one in it.

Dean,

I've been recommending them for quite a while, and the company has been very good about working with us. They sent a Rep to Maine last year to talk to us about their products (don't recall if you were in Maine last year or not) and at one point were willing to make us a dealer. One of the issues with their product for small subs is that you'll have to modify an existing rebreather canister. We started working on that some time ago but it kind of dropped by the wayside. I never officially published the info, but you can review a prototype modification at http://www.psubs.org/scrubber/

Micropore has shown an interest in working with us to come up with a solution for small subs, but we need volunteers to move the project along. As you stated, the cartridges make life easy both in storage and reloading during a dive. However, the cartridges are significantly more expensive then traditional soda lime products. On the plus side, they are better performers.

I still have a canister that they sent me for prototype work. If you are truly interested in going this route, I'd be happy to start it up again and we could even send you the unit for testing in your sub.

Jon
