Sorry - the technical level of this list is so high that I assumed people would know these, especially since they are pretty common now. For everybody else's benefit, the Hall effect sensor takes advantage of the redirection of an electrical current in the presence of an external magnetic field. The sensor is entirely solid-state, so should be very reliable under pressure.

I had a dive torch with a magnetic switch that wasn't that reliable,
& potting the Hall effect sensor seems easiest.
