Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] pioneer II

I wonder if that is the same liar I talked to (the VP). I tried to buy the sub years ago. It is built from the Aquarius II pressure hull. Martech did it in Houston with Mike Witt (ex-Perry) as the project manager. I'd still like to have it, mind you. SWRi built that hull to ABS spec (and the A III, as well). Hyco reneged on the deal. They were failing at the time, and there was some issue or detail they used as an excuse, but the hulls were fine. Maybe they turned out a little heavy or something. I don't remember the details.

Hey Vance,
I have a bit of suttle-butt on the mysterious removal of the
Pioneer II from the Santa Barbara Maritime Museum. I was down there at the
harbor so I decided to try and get some info about why the sub was no longer
there. At first nobody knew anything about it, but then a young kid behind
a computer piped up and said he actually did know. He said that the Vice
President ( a she) of the museum had the sub in a "holding area" and that
they were negotiating with some universities about the transfer of it. He
also said the there was a ton of paperwork that went on before it was
removed. That sub is very close to the size of the Aquarius I believe.
