I don't know about a complete sub, Jon, but we did some overlays in the bilges and on the lower segments of the ring stiffeners on mine and burned just over 50# of rod just doing that. Granted, it was a fair amount of overlay, but still, that's a lot of rod. Like I had the payload to spare, right?

I'm having a blast with my once-per-week welding night course at the local Voc college. Welding rod seems to be a lot more expensive then I had thought, and given that one rod (stick welding) doesn't go very far I'm curious if those of you who have built or are building a K-350 sized submersible can estimate how many pounds of welding rod you required (not including a trailer) for the project. I know there are many dependencies such as project size and welder ability, I'm just looking for a ballpark estimate.
