[mailto:owner-personal_submersibles@psubs.org] On Behalf Of Jay K. Jeffries Hugh, You want to be carefully of
using stainless steel bolts in places that will receive little or no
circulation of water or air. Stainless steel is subject to pitting and
crevice corrosion. You may have seen this when trying to remove a SS bolt
from a solid aluminum piece, the aluminum might have some corrosion around the
bolt and the bolt head looks great. When some torque is applied to the
bolt, the head twists off. Inspection of the bolt shaft shows that the SS
looks like it has cancer. R/Jay Resepectfully, Jay K.

buoyancy tanks grit blasted, then zinc metal sprayed then painte d. They said don’t Zinc metal spray. Aluminium metal
spray is OK. What they said is that the water will penetrate the paint
and activate the zinc and paint will come off. I guess the same applies for galvanizing then
painting. Does anyone have any comment on this. Also with Aluminium
bolted to stainless steel they said don’t use stainless bolts use monel. If it is true what they say it is another caution for
P-subbers falling into traps. Hugh Problem with getting older is that I’ve forgotten whether I
have forgotten or never knew!
