Frank, I have an idea for an ROV storage method that has two opening doors on the back of a 1atm submarine. The back of the sub is similar to the missile deck of cold war fame. The doors open in the middle and part to each side on pivot points allowing a small tethered ROV to come up and explore. A reel would allow for storing the extra cable when storing it back inside its hole. When these doors are closed, the deck is flush and creates little drag. This idea is not new but borrowed from the navy as such a buoy system was used at the time but for radio reception. When opened, the doors fell to each side and down within the free flooded portion of the superstructure. An ROV is a fairly simple and inexpensive way to enter the world of submarines. I've seen some pretty nice ones made from PVC pipe and tiny motors. Can't do a lot of work but real cheap to build and the learning curve is short. I'll probably delve into these after my sub is working and hope to be able to launch it from the sub with a video camera on-board. Frank D.
