Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Coupling Thru Hulls

Hi Brent
Are you saying diatomaceous earth can be used as a shield for Tig welding if so that could be good news to me as I am doing most of my joints now with Tig and have to usually do quite a bit of grinding on the air side ceramic masking tape is impossible to get in my area.
All the best

That large SS tank is for some sort of cutting slurry storage for a large drilling operation of some kind. We are waiting for the thru hull specs from them so I can finish the CAD work on it, to have them final proof the tank design.  It would make a very nice hyperbaric chamber though.

He's not into ROV's currently, he's really into photography, so perhaps I can suck him into it that way. ;}  (Insert evil laugh here)  He's been thinking of designs for a pontoon boat that carries a car and/or truck for some time now, so it looks like we might be working together on my floating sub trailer, that once the sub is off loaded can then carry the tow vehicle.  How crazy it that. We both suffer from what we call hyper brain syndrome, so it should all work out or sink to the bottom of lake Pend Oreille.

I used to use diatomaceous earth for filter polishing aquarium water. That's why I still had some to try out.  If it's a lubricant for drilling, then perhaps it's perfect for are application. I knew some one would have more data.  Don't for get it can be made into a past with water and used in place of backing gas shielding a weld zone.

Hi Brent. Good to have a friend like that. Is that a storage tank or a hyperbaric chamber?
Interesting that he builds his own robots. Does he have any interest in ROV's ?
Sounds like a good guy to know. Frank D.
Oh ya, Thanks for the thread-o-let links.
The moly grease is good stuff, and I've heard about using the diatomaceous earth. It's useful for a lot of things. I remember hearing it's good to eat too. (yuck) It's used in well drilling too, as a lubricant for the drill head and also to suspend rock chips and expand in the hole to hold back the sides when the drill head is pulled up and pipe casing is inserted. Pretty useful stuff. Frank D.
