Hi all,

For anyone setting up a VBT- You can purchase a stainless postal scale to mount the tank on. It has a remote display, indicates weights over 300 lbs in .1 lb increments and can run off a 9V battery. The remote display will tell you exactly how much weight is in the VBT (using tare) at all times.

If interested, ebay item # 290270446480

Thanks,

Greg

Hi Frank,

That's the full list for me, though I should point out it's geared only toward items that impact safety. It could be longer, for example, if it included the sequence of actions for diving or had optional things like "turn on the echo sounder". But keeping it short and simple was very much the objective.

One of the crew on this last trip was a friend who had never dived a PSUB, but who some years ago was the chief engineering officer on a nuclear sub. A week before the trip I sat him sit in Snoopy for an hour, getting him familiar with all systems. This little list was really useful for him, because he took it with him and had it memorized by the time we were on the water. That's where the simplicity pays off.

thanks,

Alec

Hi Alec. I got it to open. Thanks for the list. Very interesting. There was a couple things I hadn't thought of.

The list was a little shorter than I thought it would be. Are there checks and/or tasks not listed? It makes me wonder if my design has too many valves in it. I've never seen a schematic of the plumbing system from any one's sub, so was just "winging" it. I started with a very complex schematic which included every valve, thru-hull, "T", tank, part, and piece. It ended up with 27 holes in my hull. Well, I knew I was on the wrong track there, and I started paring down the design, eliminating and reconfiguring the systems that make it work. Kind of like my old Harley. It had a TON of wires going every where, but it only takes 4 to make it run!

Do any of you guys have a schematic of air/water lines and parts for your subs? It would be very helpful in understanding the whole operation of the systems and how they inter-connect. Frank D.
