       Nickel plating is frequently used in a saltwater environment.  I don't see how you could get a pin hole in a 1/4" or 3/8" hatch, the plating is going to ADD material to the existing steel.

How ya been Brian? Ya, nickel plating would look good, almost like chrome! Might look into that.
I think nickel plating would still need a protective coating for salt water operations.
Anybody know of a good clear coat for salt water?
