RE: [PSUBS-MAILIST] meter

Hi guys,

I'm thinking that pressure cycling electric/electronic components
will lead to a shorter mean time to failure. If it has an air pocket,
I would imagine for many components this will cause at least some
flexing, which can lead to cracks in conducting components, changing
their properties, etc.. These components may eventually fail themselves,
but depending on the circuit and components, they may cause damage
to other components due to changes in their properties.

My 2c.

Cheers,
  Ian.

Potting these small amplifier cards as an example would not prove that difficult should the need be there. (I will cross this bridge in time)

>Hi David. Ambient subs generally don't go that deep, or stay down that long. It would require using mix gas and extra certifications etc. and still is very risky. I think most ambient subs are built that way to reduce cost and complexity ( and weight) so I can't see where a capacitor or other sealed electronic device would suffer much from 2 or 3 atmospheres. It might be a good use for the testing chamber to try a few small devices containing items like that and see if they still work. Frank D.
