Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] welding sheet metal

I have determined that so far. The smallest I have is 0.030. I will go to town tommorow and
pick up so 0.024.  and maybe some more gas shield and shield the back side as Frank suggested.

Hi Dean,

I'm not sure what wire you are using, but you will have much better results with wire much smaller than >045 or ..035.

Good Luck!

Dean,

I would not braze; its twice the work and heat input.

A good mig weld is not porous. A lot of welding mishap occurs due to:

--corrosion or scale on material or wire

- Water and/or grease on material or wire

-dirty or leaking pistol/hose

-wrong gas (should be CO2 with 20% Agon 8 litres/minute)

I experienced with welding the KSS that the half finished hull acts like a funnel. The created airstream blows the gas away!.

Good luck, Emile

Frank and or all you welding guru's

Any tips on welding sheet metal. I have my saddle tanks formed and I am

going to weld two pieces together.

In my past experience I have found it difficult. Pourous welds etc.

One thought I had was to weld em for strength and then Braze over the

top.

I will be welding 18 gauge cold rolled with a MIG
