RE: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Alec's Plate Thru Hull Assembly

Go ahead Jon, no problem.

With respect to the o-ring, I just made my own using an o-ring kit from MSC. The kit is nothing but an assortment of different diameter o-ring cords, a razor, and superglue. The o-ring in Snoopy's penetrator bulkhead has been there for 4 years now without incident. When I replace it I'll see if I can find an appropriately sized off-the-shelf one, but I'm afraid I don't have a standard size for it off the top of my head.

Brent, I did spot one minor apparent error on the first of the renderings. It appears to show a weld between cover and seat that doesn't belong.

A comment I would add with this on the site... I'd recommend installing these only on endcaps, not on cylinders. The intersection of the seat with a cylinder, even a big one like the main hull cylinder, is such that the weld along that intersection pulls the seat out of a plane and the plate won't seat evenly. I've installed two of them on the main hull and had to re-machine the seats in place, which is an extremely nasty job. I've installed another two in endcaps, and neither of those distorted.

thanks,

Alec

Thanks Jon,  I wouldn't mind, but you might have to twist Alecs arm a bit. ;}

 I need to add some clearance between the plate and it's seat in the model and get with Alec to find out exactly what size of O-ring he used and the exact gland size. Then I could add all the measurement's to the drawings. You could start the page with the pictures you've already seen.  Since there are several plate thru hull designs out there, it might be good to have them all grouped together some way.

Regards,

Szybowski
