Alan, You would be best to put a video camera in a housing suitable
for scuba diving. While the increased pressure found in an ambient sub
would probably not be an issue, the 100% condensing atmosphere in the sub is
not suitable for quality optics or electronics. I take that back, the
video monitor screen will probably not like increased pressure. A depth
sounder will also have a short life in an ambient sub. The increased
pressure will drive the high humidity air into the housing where the water content
will condense on the electronic components and cause shorts and accelerated
corrosion. R/Jay Respectfully, Jay K. Jeffries Andros Is., Bahamas As scarce as the truth is, the supply has always been in excess of

[mailto:owner-personal_submersibles@psubs.org] On Behalf Of ALAN JAMES Hi,
I'm building an ambient sub and thought it would be a good idea to pick up a
video camera to
chronicle the event, but more so for using in the sub. It occured to me that I
might destroy it with
the internal pressure in an ambient sub. I've been looking at a couple of
cameras with 60 gb memory
(sony dcr sr85 & panasonic sdr h60). Another item I've looked at is a depth
sounder wich
gives me the same concerns. Has
any one got any advice, or experience with this.? regards
Alan. |
