Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Soft Tanks

Emile,
I would definitely like to see some detail on that. How is the build going?
Vance

Jim,

3% is a nice figure for the VBT. The Kreidesee project has 3,5 % or 90 Litres. Enough to compensate 1 passenger.

When the sub is in trim on dive #1 It is practical to keep the water in the VBT. You will be quick in trim for dive #2.

Hi Emile,

Thanks for the info. I will also have hard tanks that will be good for about an additional 3%.

I will look at it again.

Thanks Again,
Best Regards,

Hi Jim,

Nice project pictures!

I think 12 % is a bit low. Modern military subs has this figure.
20-25 % is a better figure.

U-boat worx C-quester has about 100% to achieve freeboard. But the extra weight is a nuisance when accelerating and turning

Hi All Psubbers,

I have completed preliminary design of my soft tanks and am looking for input. They will be shoulder tanks tapered from the sides and ends at 2-3 degrees to minimize the chance of bubble entrapment. As they are now the will support about 12 % of my subs total weight.

The bottoms will be mostly closed with rows of 4 inch diameter holes to minimize burping in rough water.

Does anyone have a guideline on this area as to what percentage is good etc.

Best Regards,

Jim K
