Hi Vance. Along those lines of a home-built suit......imagine a tiny little
sub like Peppers, and having access to a couple of off-the-shelf newt-suit arms
that could be added via some simple bolt-on flanges. That maybe could make a
home-built version possible. The basic pressure vessel with propulsion, life
support, communication, etc. could be built fairly easily, with the hard
engineering part of the rotary joints/arms added.
The simple hydraulic/electric articulating arms we discussed earlier would
be greatly improved by replacement of them with Phil's newt-suit arms. What a
blast it would be to drive around and be able to actually touch the things we
see, rather than just observe. I'll be looking very closely at those suits when
we have our convention up there. Maybe it's possible after all. Frank
