you active again on the list and I would still like to see you complete NR2 one
day. Regardless of suggestions from some doomsayers that it might have balance issues
you have all the tools and know how to make that boat a success.
Yes
Loggerhead is in many ways a huge compromise but it’ s affordable and can
be finished within a few years all going well. I plan on starting the GRP
moulding for the casing and start bench testing some systems this Xmas.
She will as
far as possible be all off the shelf parts available in AUS and USA such GM seats for the pilots, Toyota motors and DC
components available from KTA Services. I literally went out to my GM car then
measured the seats, drew the model then inserted it into the design after
making sure the weight was right for CG purposes.
The full
design is not complete yet but you are right that in many ways it’s a mini
Platypus and will act as a test bed for many of the proposed systems that would
have been installed on Platypus. Peter M and I have also discussed the
advantages of learning with a smaller vessel first so there lies the silver
lining.

I remember my first post on this list in October 05, with
Hurricane Wilma approaching. All excited about the prospects of my first
concept,... a monstrously large ambient adaptation of Nemo's Nautilus. Eight
long days without power eagerly anticipating what the list may have thought of
my ideas, as outlandish as they may have been.
Oh what an education I received from this list! In two years time, I had
learned more about submersibles than any amount of a lifetime of self-study
would have provided. Good, bad, and ugly, everything discussed on this forum
has merit. Education is priceless and I have seen no other high end activity, (aviation
included), where imagination and innovation combine to produce the results that
I have seen here, few as they may be.
No one should ever feel discouraged! This is the best gathering of minds on the
subject at hand.
