RE: [PSUBS-MAILIST] K-250 #118 Found

Thanks again Dan,

The oldest Bill of Sale I have selling this K-250 to Terry Anderson was from Leonard A. LeSchack. So that settles it.

I'm home again, and have been disassembling the sub for the last few days. I have been taking pictures as I go, and I have a lot to tell you guys.

There is a fair bit of overlapping steel that is not welded on all the adjoining edges, allowing rust to do it's thing more easily. Nothing that can't be fixed so far.

The MBT's don't appear to have a gel coat on them, so they are pretty ruff and full of tiny holes on the outer surface. Nothing a lot of sanding and filling will not cure.

As part of my FRP practice, I was thinking about making molds of this style of K-250 MBT's, and the two bottom rear fairings. This way if someone in the future wants a set for there K-250 project they could be had pretty readily.

I removed the tangle guard assembly today. They made it so it couldn't be removed without cutting if off in a couple of places. It was a rotten mess. Any body need a slightly used tangle guard?

Cheers,
Brent Hartwig

Brent,

K-250 number 118 was built for Len LeShack according to the list I got for the Captain.  1982
He was the first owner.
105 was built for Raymond Dennis  (no date)

Greetings SMMO's

I found K-250 #118.

Can you imagine my surprise when I found it in front of my garage?  I removed the front MBT and the nose lead weight today, and under the lead nose weight was a plate of steel with some weld beads on it. At first I couldn't figure out why they would weld on that plate. With all the loose paint, rust, cob webs, and being in to close I didn't see the numbers 118 welded into the plate, until hours later when I was looking for some thing else.

So if the data Dan received from the Captain is correct then my sub #118, was built and/or finished in 1982. That also means the Bill of Sale I have from Dr. LeSchack was numbered incorrectly. Perhaps he also owned #105 at one time and sold it as #118. I'll have to ask him in any case.

I guess the path of discovery was not at an end.  Sorry Dan to make ya work so hard, but it looks like your going to need to update your list yet again. I'll make it up to you some how.

Cheers,
Brent Hartwig

No, no date for 113.  Only a few have dates.
If it's any help 117 is 1976 - 1977.

But to throw a wrench into the works, there are a few that must be out of sequence.
117 is 1976 - 77
118 is 1982
119 is 1976
120 is 1976
121 is 1977
122 is 1977
123 no date
124 is 1980
129 is 1979
130 is 1980
These are the only ones with dates.
As I said, I really don't have much information.

Sorry, Dan H.
