Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Dry Dive Sub-New Zealand

Hi Hugh. Thanks for the link to the Dry Dive sub. It looks really good. I hope to take a ride in it some day.
As for naming my sub, I started thinking I'd name it "Proteus" and it seemed appropriate, but then a while back I saw someone had also chosen that name for their sub. I'm not sure how that works.....is it who started first?.....Who gets theirs in the water first?....Anyway, I've abandoned the name in defference to the other builder, and am looking for a new name. " Defender" is one being considered, but I'm leaning toward something related to sharks, so the jury is still out on the new name. I used a shark fin picture to get the shape of the tail fin on my sub, and when it's all assembled and painted, it kind of looks like a shark ( a little bit )
Because I plan on using it to help educate people on the need to conserve our oceans, "Defender" seemed like it might work. I hope to be able to take it down to the Sea of Cortez by Baja, Mexico and do some serious filming there of the schooling hammerheads, and hopefully the big squid that live there. Not sure how much grief the Mexican govt. will give me but that's one of my dream destinations.
Another good place that's local to me is Point Lobos near Monterey, Ca. I've scuba dived there and the sea life is incredible. It's a marine reserve and very beautiful. I'll need special permission to go there, as they don't allow boats, and severely limit divers to 5 per day, so if you want to dive there, you gotta get there really early.
Much of our local coast is very beautiful, but the water is really cold. That and old age are two of the big reasons I'm building the sub. Getting tired of freezing my nuts off every time I go diving.
As for the Dry Dive sub, Thanks for sending the link.
I hope the rest of the guys will access that picture you sent me. I've copied the link and here it is
It's a really nice sub, looks very roomy, and has great windows.
I remember seeing the pictures of the first launch, and then the one where he was getting ready to attend a boat fair. Very cool!
Anyway, thanks again for the invite. I may just take you up on that some day. Best wishes, Frank D.
