Greetings Alec, I trust you had a great vacation. I'll talk to Greg to see what he recommends for the type of acrylic for my different windows. I'm thinking I would like to use a tube of acrylic for the conning tower and a conical viewport in a metal hatch. I need to find out what ready made tube sizes are available in the material types that are safe to use. I have not seen much good data on the net for the larger and thicker tubes. So I'll have to start calling around. Perhaps Greg will know right off. I had done some research on large acrylic tubes a number of years for a design for a small hyperbaric chamber for animals. But I can't seem to find my old files. So I'll have to start from scratch. What is the measurement from the top of your main pressure hull, to the top of your conning tower hatch sealing surface? Mine is only 6.5" so I'm wanting to change that with the S101 type extension, but with out the extra metal tube above the acrylic tube. I've always wondered how they maintained the same shape of a blown dome after the flange is machined off during the annealing process. I would like to see pictures of your battery arrangement, wiring, and VBT. But I would make use of any other pictures of the interior as well. Sorry for the delayed response, I'm just back from vacation. Yes, Greg made Snoopy's dome and it was blown from 1" material. I can't recall the type or brand used, though I do remember Greg saying once he only uses domestic material due to quality concerns he has. I think he may have a specific manufacturer he trusts, but can't remember that one.
I don't have any specific shots of the interior, but if there's anything in particular you're interested let me know. I can just walk over and take some photos for you anytime. I have made a LOT of changes, in fact I'd claim to have built about half the sub by now. With a lot of help from friends like Dan Lance and Greg Cottrell I might add.
thanks,

Hello Alec,Sent: Thursday, July 10, 2008 11:18 PM To: PSUBSorg Subject: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Snoopy's K-250 Acrylic Dome I just noticed that there are a whole series of building pictures of your K-250 under Dale Heinzig's sub project build page that I had not seen before for some reason. Perhaps that's part of the new fancy site Jon has whipped up. http://www.psubs.org/projects/heinzig/ In those pictures, I was looking at your dome and was interested to know if Greg Cottrell made the dome? Was it blow from a 1 inch sheet of acrylic as speced in the plans, and what type of acrylic was used? I had been wanting to see better pictures of a K-250's VBT, and there are some in the build pictures, so that is very helpful. Do you have any really good pictures of the interior of yours sub as it is configured now? Regards, Brent Hartwig |
