Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] escape training

There used to be one both in Subase New London and Pearl Harbor, now both gone. I understand they are going to build a shallower new one in New London. The old ones were 115 feet, if I remember rightly, with locks at 15 ft, 50 ft and 100 ft.

It was in use when I went to Sub school in 1966. It was a blast.

I understand that a new Tower has been constructed at SUBASE NLON.  The old one was out of service a lot but I did get a chance to make an ascent in it.

While in the service in Groton/New London, The escape tower was down due to faulty lighting...I thought myself lucky to miss this training as I was nervous about letting out my air while underwater. Now, I wish I coud have had the thing work!
