Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Viewport locations.

James

From my experience so far, I could have left them out all together. I've
taken many people down with me and all except for one preferred to lay on the deck with his / her nose to the larger forward facing view port. Those rear viewports get used mostly on dry land by spectators, to see what the inside of the sub looks like.

My seat is arranged that it hangs from one side on an arm so my passenger can swing the set out of the way, lie down, and then I swing the seat back so I sit above their waist with my legs over their shoulders and feet on the rudder peddles. That way we both get the best view. In murky water it's the only view.

Yes, my rear viewports are on the center line. You could lower them. There are two factures you need to consider when placing them. One is that the person sitting in the rear of the sub will have their head higher the viewports and has a downward view, even if the ports are on the center line. The other is, where are you locating your compressed air tanks? If your placing them according to the plans be sure you don't get to low and have the viewport blocked by the air tanks. Mine could have been a bit lower.

Mock it up and see what you like.

Hi All.

Quick question for Dan and K350 owners.

I've finally got the rings complete this weekend Im ready to install the rear side viewports together with the 2 extra ones i have made.

http://www.guernseysubmarine.com/index_files/Page10283.htm

The plans seem to show the rear ports at a slight downward angle, but there is no indication (that i can see) anywhere that says what this angle is.

Dan, looking at your pictures of Persistance, it looks like you've put yours smack bang in the middle?

Any thoughts as to the position of these ports before i start hacking holes? Middle? Slight downward angle? More of an angle??

The 2 extra ones are going to go in between frames 2 and 3 as Jon Farrington did on his.

I think Dan suggested putting them between frames 1 and 2, but i just done think there is enough room to weld them in. So they are going to be like Jons.

Thanks
James
