Hi,
	I am new to the list.  My name is Scott Ford, I have been lurking for a couple of weeks.  I have absolutely no experience in subs.  I have been around boats all of my life.  I was born and raised on the st. maries river in Sault ste. Mari Michigan.  I was in the navy cb's for eight years , and worked as a Construction mechanic "CM".  I now live in Traverse city Michigan, I have been helping a local wooden boat restoration group called Maritime Heritage Alliance with their boats.  This is how I came across your list.  I am extremely interested in all aspects of the construction and operation of subs.  The mechanical, financial, can-do spirit, and break out of the box attitude necessary for such a project is absolutely incredible.  
	I have been looking at different types of electric pod style motors.  There is a new electric outboard called the Torqeedo.  The motor is about 3 hp, 32volt with its own rechargeable battery..  There is an optional 24 volt cable if you would like to use additional batteries.  There big sales pitch is that you get a lot more power, and a much more efficient motor.  I Believe that the cost is around $1699. I do not know if this is cost prohibitive for this kind of implementation.  I do know that compared to comparable gas outboards it is an expensive alternative.  I do not know how many horsepower it takes to operate a sub.  I also do not know if the motor cavity could be filled with oil, or air.  I do know that it does have a variable pitch prop.
