RE: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Underwater comms: texting.

Very cool indeed!  It does have some limitations as you can see in the below quote. It will be interesting to see how this device could be used inside a sub with some sort of external antenna that might be able to even boast it's range a bit.  It must be sending a very simple signal for each preset text message, instead of the entire message. I'm still would like to be able to type any messange I like, when ever I want to.

Like:  Did you see that UFO, are the cookies still up in the boat, can you please untie the robe that is still keeping me attached to the dock, I'm inside Moby Dick, call the Navy.   ;)'

"Bi-directional text messages

Using bi-directional text messaging technology, the UDI system allows divers to transmit pre-saved messages to other divers in the network, at a range of up to 500 meters (550 yards).

Divers can create up to 14 text messages, based on the needs of the team.
The messages are created on a PC, on a special frendly software - a part of the product.

When a message is sent, a received signal activates an audible alert and lights up the graphic LCD screen to notify the recipient.
When received, an acknowledgment is sent.
Messages can also be transmitted between individual units and the boat unit."

Wow!

If at all possible, research and share the cost of this system as it is really neat!
