Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] RE: Underwater Navigation

Hi Dean,

The old one was just a plastic canister (20 liters oil drum)

see:
http://www.vulcaniasubmarine.com/CARSTEN%20SGT_files/image022.jpg

But it needs a heavy lead weight to counter balance the CB antenna so I
decide that we need a new float with will be a foam about 500 x 300 x 80 mm.
Metall deck from Aluminium on top and keel plate flat stainless steel.
GPS antenna on a kind of raised chair and CB Antenna in front off it.

Conceptdrawing see here:

http://www.euronaut.org/content/upload/notes/SP-SSS-GPS-CB-Float-V1.jpg

Peppers get into a pressure dock next month and will be test unmanned to
200 meter and if survife than manned to 100 meter in the dock.

So 100 meter cable length is at least required.

Side Scan Scanner must be on the sub - otherwhise the side scanner
will not work properly. Sub must be 3 to 10 feet over the bottom.

On this picture you can see a black shadow in the middle of the screen :

If the fish or subamrine gets higher this dead area gets more beamy.
With the scanner on the surface and a deep of more than 40 meter the
hole screen is black and dead. The idear of side scan is that the
scanner is deep and look from the side.

regards Carsten
