I can across this article about presssure tolerant/resistant lithium cells for
AUVs:

Having a poke around Lithium Tech's website, I found (what I think might be)
a picture of the pressure tolerant cell, scroll all the way down to the bottom 
of the page:

I didn't see a price for these, might not be suitable for subs (prices? other
problems?), but it's nice to see battery technology being made for the specific
purpose many of use want it for!
