RE: [PSUBS-MAILIST] certification question

Ian,

Recently reviewed this issue as part of the recertification of a tourist submersible hopefully soon to be deployed in Antigua.  It is VERY expensive and long for the initial certification from ABS (recertification was USD $10K, extensive calculations and design plans have to be provided prior to construction, and continued inspections throughout the build and operational test phase are required to get the top inspection rating.  A lesser rating is available for subs submitted for evaluation after construction is completed and testing requirements are met with a timed test dive.  All other aspects of the certification such as calculations, plans, operational testing, etc. will need to be accomplished for the lesser certification.

The effort and cost are prohibitive for a small sub unless you are independently wealthy.

A skimmer afloat is but a submarine, so poorly built it will not plunge.

Subject: [PSUBS-MAILIST] certification question

Hi.

Does somebody have information or experience with certifying (for passenger trips) a small submersible??

-how much did it cost ??

-how much effort?

-afterwards or parallel to building process.

Thanks in advance.
