RE: [PSUBS-MAILIST] RFC - Radio communications for submersible dive operations



Way to go Al! If you can come up with a build-it-yourself design or even
a buy-it-from-Al design, that would be a huge contribution given the
prices for the off the shelf comms. I'm going to pass your email to a
friend who just possibly could help with the transducer issue.

Hi Guys,

I have been working on a design for U/W comm for a couple of years now
and have a design that works but needs refining.  My design operates on
Double Side Band at 32.768Khz.  I chose this frequency to be compatible
with the OTS Buddy Phone on my Aga full face mask.
Now the problem and why I am not ready to release the design....

The biggest problem is securing an omnidirectional transducer with full
electrical specs that doesn't cost an arm & a leg or requires buying
1000+ quantities.  The one I'm using now I purchased from OTS for $200
but don't have specs on it so my driver circuit is not optimum.  I would
also like to modify my design to be true SSB (Single Side
Band) with a
supressed carrier for better power efficieny.  I have an idea on how to
do this but won't get a chance to work on it until the end of December.

We will also need to settle on a frequency since the transducers have a
pretty narrow bandwidth.  I obviously vote for 32.768 Khz USB.

I'll try to keep interested parties posted on my progress.
