RE: [PSUBS-MAILIST] battery charge level

Brian,

You could use this...
http://www.xantrex.com/web/id/237/p/1/pt/5/product.asp

The advantage this has over a voltmeter is that it integrates the
current that has been drawn from the battery since the last charge. So
for example, your current voltage might be X, but you are in two very
different situations depending on whether you have drawn it down to that
quickly or slowly. A battery that is drawn down gradually will give many
more amps than one that is used under higher load. Another neat feature
is that it gives you a reading of how long the battery will last at the
current drain rate (based also on the past use pattern).

Thanks,

Alec

Ok, this is a stupid question but it has been bugging me.
How do you know how much charge you have in your batteries?
Other
than keeping track of how long you have run your motors how can you
tell.
I know that the wwII subs would have to check the battery acid levels to
accurately know how much power was in the batteries. But with the
sealed AGM or gel batteries you can't measure the acid, and chances are
you wouldn't be able to anyway in a small sub.

Thanks,

Brian Cox
