Brian,  You've got to be kidding! 
 
Get yourself a few buckets of old tire weights.  Some tire shops will give it away just not to have to deal with it.  Some may charge a bit, but it's CHEEP.  And you can mold it to any shape you want with low heat.  It may not be as heavy as depleted Uranium but why go so exotic to save a few square inches??????

Hi All,
              I'm going to be needing some ballast and I was wondering if anybody has ever use depleted uranium?  I know they use it in various applications, airplane counter balance, and other ballast aplications.
