John,
At my place you will find three
submarines:
Freya, decommissioned, 4 ton / 7 meters.
operational 2002 - 2006. Freya was a prototype electric submarine used in some
400 dives to gather information on basic submarine designs
features.
Kraka, operational from 2005 and onwards. 6.5 ton / 12.6 meters. Kraka is a diesel electric
submarine designed to explore all areas of submarine operation such as
- propulsion, life support, navigation in open
sea and more advanced sensors. She also features a snorkel, hydrophones, a diver
lockout and a four camera periscope. Like full size submarines she is controlled
with dive planes and ballast tanks and can make fast "das boot" like dives.
Kraka is mored next to the UC- 3 building site and is on constat alert -
she always run out after less than ten minutes of preparations.
UC-3, under construction, in outfitting
process. Slated to be launched - though uncompleted in a few month. UC-3 is a 32
ton / 17.6 meter submarine designed for operations worldwide, surface range
3500 nm with 100 meter dive capacity. She is a "live onboard passage
maker" as we call it.
These three boats are build by my friends and me.
They are amateur designs and is build with a midget budget.
I am living a few hundred kilometers from Carsten
Standfuss, who is designing a more advanced deep diving passage maker.
Only problem - we are both living in Europe.
Carsten i Bremerhafen and I in Copenhagen.
Regards,
Peter Madsen
