RE: [PSUBS-MAILIST] michiganshipwrecks

Thanks Jay! The Burlington is described on Michinganshipwrecks as just a few bits of metal in an area that's hard to access safely due to the high traffic of jet skis and other recreational boaters. I haven't yet found anything on the Argo, but the location looks more because she's not right in the middle of a channel. If there's anything left of it, it might make a good safe site for what would be my first wreck dive in Snoopy, since the depth is only about 25 feet. I researched boat ramps, and it's apparently about 2 miles to the closest one. Which means we'd have to get a tow of some sort. Perhaps someone at the convention has a boat, or else maybe I can rent something. We'll see, at least this gives me a specific site to aim for if conditions seem feasible.

Alec,

Hadn’t forgotten your request…had a little trouble finding the NOAA AWOIS files on my traveling hard drive, putting finishing touches on Excruciator, and having to dine with different family members since I am back in the States has tied me up.

See http://www.frappr.com/?a=viewphoto&id=260879&pid=7469548&myphotos=1 for the two wrecks in the immediate vicinity of the Holland breakwater.  They are both in VERY shallow water and noting else is any where close to Holland.  The numbers for the two wrecks are:

1.     ARGO 2148                  N42.78335 W86.21671

2.     BURLINGTON 2147     N42.77169 W86.21671

You are on your own for finding a launching ramp.

There are two additional chart images of the Holland area in vary resolutions at my FRAPPR site.

A skimmer afloat is but a submarine, so poorly built it will not plunge…
