The great thing about LED's, besides they last a long time, is they don't use much power. I like your idea of using the Red LED gages. Of course flash lights are easy and cheap to have a number of them in your sub. That is unless they are Surefire flashlights. They are spendy, but oh so bright.

Brent you are right on target. I like to be able to see out as well
as possible and think the white would tend to give me back light.
they make really cool LEDs to light up the gauges etc. even come
in red not destroying my night vision.
