Joe,
You make a great point about keeping controls simpler. Perhaps there are some different controllers out there that can be put together in such a way as to make one or more of these configurations, easy to pilot. That's a little out of my field of experience at the moment so I don't know.
Looking at your new picture of your sub it took me a second to find the horizontal bow thruster. Since I was thinking you were going to put it ahead of the X-thrusters in the bow. But I like where you put it.
