A vacuum is only 15psi less them atmospheric pressure, if your VBT
can't stand a 15psi difference, then it's not going to be much use
for underwater activities (where is has to withstand a higher pressure
difference).  I'd guess you would still have some air in the tank any.

I think Karl Stanley's sub (from what I could gather from the website) ballasted down to descend and provide propulsion then used air to ascend, which is what I'm trying to avoid.
