Gene,Ever find yourself thinking of a neat idea and constantly working in your head until you find a way to make it work?
Problem:Since the "placo" control station will be manned by only myself, my concentration will be focused primarily on the steering wheel (The rudder controls when turned and when pushed or pulled, the stern planes controls. The sail planes or fairwater planes will be stationary) Close nearby is a depth gage, motor speed controls, atmosphere monitoring, battery usage and such, How with all this activity will I find the time to slowly search with the hydrophone selector unit?
Answer:By using an additional two wires within the interface cable to the hydrophones (already there!) and connecting them to the same two terminals on the piezo element as before, with the use of a two position switch, I will be able to hear all the hydrophones at one time (360 degrees!) as all of the + lines from all hydrophones will be common as well as the return lines in this mode, or as before, I can switch to concentrated search with + signals isolated one hydrophone from another being sent to the hydrophone selector unit for comming up shallow for a more accurate contact bearing search. There will be no crosstalk issues as only the selected (switched on) pair of wires within the hydrophone will allow the minute ac current from the piezo element to flow, and enough wires remain to still shield the units!
In this new expanded search mode, all sounds within the detection range of these hydrophones should be heard, as well as self generated noises and its all hands off!
Just had to share this.David

I will bring it to the convention and be willing togive a short presentation on his design and construction and ideas onimplementing a setup which will allow directional sensing. I've already tried one ofthe transducers in my fish pond in the back yard, hooked up to a cheapkaraoke machine for amplification. I does pick up the sound of the waterfall andwhen I tap a rock on the sidewalk beside the pond, you can hear it quite well. David send some very nice literature which I'll pass out at theconvention. As he says, this is not the final answer to psub passive sonar, but a place to start the experimentation, research and discussion. As a prior navysub guy, he has some practical knowledge and experience. A side note.... I put it up against my stomach and.... eewww I could hear my intestines gurgling!
